“If you don’t know where you are going… any road will get you there!”

This famous quote from Lewis Carrol’s “Alice in Wonderland” is a paraphrase of an exchange that Alice has with the Cheshire Cat. We’ve all heard it… what does it mean? Why is direction important?

There are times in our lives in which getting lost and throwing away the map can feel and be -so liberating! We may decide to spend some time “off trail”, exploring and experiencing the world from a place of “no plans, no destination”. Many wonderful and enlightening experiences may be possible when we let go and wander. It can be good for the soul.

There are also times in our lives in which having a clear vision of your true desires- matters very much!

If you don’t know what you want for dinner or the type of food you wish to nourish your body- any restaurant will do.

If you don’t know what type of home you wish to provide safety and security for yourself and your family- any house will do.

If you don’t know what type of vehicle you wish to transport yourself and your loved ones safely within- to and fro – any car will do.

If you don’t know what qualities are important in your life partner, any husband or wife will do.

If you don’t know what values and characteristics are important in your professional team- secretary, receptionist, accountant etc. – any person who can do the job- will do.

Over the course of our lives, it is important to have a direction in mind. It is important to have an idea of those people, places and things that matter most. Having this consciousness allows us to begin to navigate and fine tune all of our major decisions and choices.

The Vital Life Alignment program provides several experiences and tools for you to take a “deeper” look into every major area of your life and begin to fine tune all of the actions within your life. Going through the transformational learning experiences facilitates greater clarity and allows you to begin to use an inner “conscious compass” in which you can monitor how far you have travelled off path and reset your course.

Do you have a broad spectrum “check list” for the various categories within your life? Do you know what is most important to you within your friendships; your clients; your vacations; your family time; your free time?

Do you know why you spend the amount of time you spend on the various activities within your day? Do those percentages stand up to the test of what is most important to you?

Gregg Fairbrothers, a contributing writer for Forbes magazine wrote an article about the Cheshire Cat /Alice conversation. “What’s the real goal for you? Do you know? Often people think their goals are obvious… that is, until someone asks them to actually describe them… actually paint a clear picture. Then it can quickly get muddled, because they’d really been thinking about second things and thinking they were first.” Fairbrothers adds, “How often do people start out without pausing to think where they want to end up- and then they’re confused or worse, disappointed or disillusioned because they realize what they’ve found isn’t what they were looking for.”

Alice- “Would you please tell me which way I ought to go from here?”

Cat- “That depends a good deal on where you want to get to”

What things come FIRST for you? Do you know? Are you putting SECONDARY THINGS- first?
